Many hands make light work...
And so the hands at Fawcett Dopke Insurance Agency went to work. It had been almost 10 years since Susan Betz had designed a quilt. Being a cancer survivor herself, Susan was prompted out of retirement to design a quilt to be raffled to raise money for the agency’s Relay for Life team. She designed the 8ft by 12 ft quilt that was financed, cut out, and primarily hand pieced by coworkers.
Jill Hinson took lead on piecing the Jacob's ladder squares, while Joyce Vickers preferred Grandmothers fan. Shelly Thompson helped with all the red and white checkered pieces while Kathy Olney, Michele Wolf and Faith Linsenmayer kept us in supply of pieces as they marked and cut out more than a thousand pieces of material needed for the quilt. Susan kept the project construction rolling in the off hours and constructed the blocks into the quilt design as they were completed.
No quilt is done until it is quilted and with many thanks to Kathy Jabara who owns and operates Maddy & Me Long Arm Quilting, 231-938-9495. Kathy found time to donate her long arm quilter along with hours of time and talent to make the quilt top into a masterpiece. "We were so fortunate and blessed to have partnered with such skill and talent," comments the group.
The quilt will be on display and raffled at the Relay for Life Rally June 7th and 8th at the Civic Center. Come out and support a wonderful cause and perhaps take home a beautiful quilt.
Our Personal Lines Team participated in "The Housing Game" on April 5, 2008. The event was sponsored by the Traverse Area Association of Realtors, the Traverse City Chamber of Commerce, and the Home Builders Association. Classes were featured to educate the perspective new home buyer, as well as information from local businesses to assist in the entire home buying experience.
A door prize was awarded by Fawcett/Dopke Insurance to Rick Conley. Various prizes were awarded during the day with participation from guests that played our game of "Life."
